Fr. Gerry Swieringa, interim Rector of Grace by the Sea, is a retired Anglican priest who formerly served as Rector of St. Brendan’s Anglican Church in Bellingham, WA. He came to ordained ministry at age 60 after he retired from a career in the oil industry as a process safety official.
Fr. Gerry’s dear wife, Peg, died in 2023 after sharing 49 years of marriage. Grieving her death has given him insight into avenues of God’s grace. He has a special place in his heart for those suffering the loss of a loved one.
He lives with his dog, Beau, near his daughter and her family. He can often be found at his desk writing poetry or short fiction. His other delights are music, fly fishing, reciting the Daily Office, and cheering on his talented grandchildren.
